- Do you budget and save for the items you want?
- Do you charge it on your credit card?
- Do you sell blood?

For myself, I budget in a monthly allowance, which I will either save for something big or if the mood strikes pick up an item within the budgeted amount for that month. There are times I will slap it on a credit card, but only if I can pay it off within 30 days.
ReplyDeleteI count toys as part of my general fun/entertainment budget.
ReplyDeleteGiven the way most people pick up at least some of their toys online, I don't know how you'd avoid using a credit card, so it's funny to see that as a point on it's own. Although I suppose if you're mostly shopping for vintage toys at flea markets it would be easier to go all cash all the time...
Nice to see that you budget for your collecting. Valid point with using credit cards to make purchases Online. To clarify, I was wondering if collectors put themselves in debt in order to fulfill their collecting wants.
DeleteAh, fair point - I was a little too literal there, wasn't I?
DeleteWhen I was able to spend money, I would usually sell something else off on eBay in order fund other purchases. That way, I wasn't using money that was otherwise allocated to paying bills or buying other necessities.
ReplyDeleteAnother great method Chris. I do know several collectors who will part with apportion of their collection in order to pick up something new or a piece that they were really looking to acquire.
DeleteIt kind of helps to keep the clutter down as well. If I give myself a limited space, it makes me really consider each purchase, rather than buying on impulse.
DeleteValid point Chris. I've known of collectors who end up with duplicates because they have don't have their collections organized and don't remember what they purchased. Lack of space can create a focused collector. It seems to be a direction I may heading in myself.
